Yes. Grapefruit juice can cause unexpected increases in the effect of some medications in the body. The effect is strongest if taken with the drug or up to 4 hours before but can last up to 24 hours.
Drugs affected include simvastatin and atorvastatin (cholesterol), carbamazepine (epilepsy), felodipine (blood pressure), amiodarone (heart) and cyclosporin (immune suppression).
Seville (or bitter) orange juice has the same effect but sweet orange juice does not.
