Can cranberry juice prevent 'cystitis'?

Recent research has shown that cranberries can help prevent bladder infections (cystitis) in women.

Bladder infections cause frequent urination, burning and pain. Cranberry juice and tablets appear safe and effective in preventing cystitis in women who are prone to frequent attacks.

The exact amount required is uncertain, but one study used three 250ml cups of 100% cranberry juice daily. Cranberry products may cause nausea or diarrhoea and not everyone likes the taste. No interactions with medicines have been found.
