The First Avenue Family Practice is an accredited general practice providing good quality medical care to all ages, races and religions. All doctors in the practice work as a team with a commitment to good general medicine.
We deal with acute and chronic care, psychological health, vaccinations, travel advice, skin checks, male and female checks. We participate in antenatal shared care with RPA and Canterbury Hospitals.

Pathology collector available 8am to 1 pm Monday to Friday.

Ring 9713 5869 for an appointment please inform the receptionist if you need more time with the doctor or need to be seen urgently.
Ring in the morning so visits can be planned before lunch. We only visit patients who are registered at the practice. Visits are not generally bulk-billed.
When the surgery is closed, please ring 000 for emergencies, our After Hours Medical Service 8724 6300 for home visits or attend Balmain GP casualty at Balmain Hospital.
We are a child-friendly practice. Our reception staff Gina, Gail, Helen, Adele and Franca and Riffat, will make appointments or help you.
We are a group practice and encourage you to see another doctor within the practice for continuity of care if your preferred doctor is unavailable. Records are shared.
No patient information is given to a third party without your consent. Our staff are trained in patient confidentiality and have signed a “confidentiality of information” contract.
We support the use of National and State registers for reminding patients of follow up treatment . If you do not want to participate please inform your doctor.
We make every effort to contact patients where significant results are identified. Normal and less important results will be followed up at the next visit.

You can contact your doctor by ringing during surgery hours. Emergency calls will always be put straight through. The doctor will ring back for non-urgent calls.
ALL CHILDREN and F/T STUDENTS, Pensioners, Veterans Affairs and health care cardholders are bulk-billed.
IF YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY PAYING OUR FEES, PLEASE DISCUSS THIS WITH US.
This is a private billing practice. There is a gap of $20-$50 between Medicare rebate and our fee. Fees are payable at the time of consultation by cash, cheque, credit card. Your claim to Medicare may be lodged and direct refund made to your nominated bank account by Medicare.
We bulk-bill visits that are made solely for the review of results ordered within the past month.
