Each of our medical practitioners is a rostered Visiting Medical Officer at Bellinger River and District Hospital, providing inpatient and outpatient care, as well as after hours and weekend emergency care in the shire’s casualty department. Our practice provides home visits, Bellorana Hostel and Nursing Home visits, provides obstetric services and maintains the only anaesthetic service at our hospital.
Urgent cases will be seen on the day, by the first available Doctor (this may not necessarily be your usual Doctor), or referred to the Doctor on call at the hospital if our emergency appointments have already been taken.
Since each of our Doctors are Visiting Medical Officers at the local hospital, there will be times when they are required at the hospital at short notice, as we provide emergency care for Urunga, Raleigh, Repton and neighbouring valleys within the shire.
This commitment helps to maintain our local hospital. This is different to metropolitan style practice, but is part of the living and working responsibility within a rural community. We would invite you to be aware of others needs at these times.
Because an anaesthetic service is available, local surgeons also offer their services here and operate within the hospital on Mondays and Fridays.
Obstetric calls can also affect the flow of appointments.
All our doctors share in an after hours roster. Emergency care is provided at these times by general practitioners through the Bellinger River and District Hospital. The phone number is 6659 5800.
When doctors are with other patients messages will be taken, however emergencies will be given priority.
Payment is expected at time of consultation. Concession card holders and DVA patients will be bulk billed. Please note, a fee may be charged for missed appointments.
An appointment is required for repeat prescriptions or pathology results.
