Welcome to the Surgery at Jerra!

Dr David Yates and his wife, Kylie, opened The Surgery at Jerra in September 2008. Over time, we have increased the number of doctors and allied health providers to facilitate a total approach to general practice care. We currently have nine doctors who, as well as providing general medical care, have special interests including obstetrics, men’s, children’s and women’s health, mental health, sports medicine, diabetes, asthma and minor surgery. We also have allied health professionals specialising in Podiatry, Psychology, Diabetes Education, Remedial Massage Therapy and Dietetics and Nutrition. Our team is committed to the best possible long-term care of all our patients. We have Laverty Pathology on site for patient convenience.

Our goal is to provide a family-friendly, ‘old-fashioned’ general practice.

We have ‘quarantined’ appointments so people with an acute illness can be seen on the day they are sick. This means there may occasionally be a wait for the doctor of your choice for a non-urgent appointment.

You are welcome to request a specific doctor when you call for your appointment. If your usual GP is not available, all our other doctors can access your medical records and continue your medical care.

We believe involvement in the community comes with a social responsibility.  We participate in local activities such as fetes and fairs which have a health and wellbeing focus. The Surgery at Jerra sponsors the Jerra Pram Walking Group which helps new mums with exercise, socialisation and issues surrounding post-natal depression. Dr Yates is the group’s patron.

From a wider community perspective, our team is also committed to ongoing development and training of new doctors, medical students and other allied health students.

We are involved with GP registrar training as well as medical students from the ANU.  Being involved in training local students will encourage them to stay in our local area once qualified and help reduce the critical doctor shortage.
